On Friday, 4th March, David Gordon, the director of the Book Bus Foundation, and Gail Richards, a former volunteer who’s just about to start a 200km walk around Yorkshire to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Book Bus, and raise funds for the project, bought the newest Book Bus, Matilda, to visit Sandal as part of its UK tour. Once the tour is finished, Matilda will be driven to the South coast, put on a container ship, shipped to Namibia, and driven across Namibia and Zambia to Malawi, where it will be used to visit local schools, and spread the joy of reading. Almost all our pupils managed to see Matilda, and most of them had a brief presentation from either myself, Gail or David about the work of Book Bus in Africa and South America. Despite the terrible weather (where we discovered that ex-police vans have quite leaky windows!), a good time was had by all, and David was very appreciative of the welcome Matilda got at Sandal.
