Important news regarding eligibility for Free School Meals

You can apply for school meals if you receive:

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit with an annual income of less than £16,190, provided they are not receiving Working Tax Credit
  • the ‘Guaranteed’ element of the State Pension Credit
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (you will need to apply directly to the school not Bradford Council)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Universal Credit

If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals, you can apply online on the Bradford Council website . This not only provides free meals, but also gives you access to other benefits such as free or reduced cost OOSH clubs, uniform vouchers, and more.

From September 2014 all children in a reception class, year 1 and year 2 will get a free school meal – regardless of their parents’ income.  However, please note that it is important that parents still apply for Free School Meals as this affects school’s income and also allows parents to access other benefits through the Pupil Premium including uniform vouchers. If you currently have children in Reception or Year 1, please note that you have to reapply for free school meals.
