Year 2 are now the oldest and wisest of the Key Stage! This means that it’s up to 2P and 2S to set a shining example for the younger children moving into Reception and Year 1. We are extremely excited to begin our adventure through this final stage of Key Stage 1 and strive to offer an engaging and stimulating curriculum for all children.

The start of the year will see us exploring  ‘Hot and Cold places.  This will help us to think about our Geography question ‘Would you rather live in a hot or cold place’ as well as exploring animals and their habitats in Science. An exciting visit to The Deep will enable the children to experience many animals up close and to develop their understanding of where in the world they live and how they live in their environment. In Art, the children will create paintings and collages of animals inspired by the impressionist painter Dieter Braun. We will move onto stitching in DT and History in the second half of the term

During the Spring term, our topic will be ‘Why is our World Wonderful?’. Children will be captivated by wonderful stories and pieces of art. In Science, we will explore the suitability of everyday materials and we will make wheeled vehicles in DT, thinking about how types of axles work.

Our final topic, ‘Coast to Coast’, takes us to the seaside! The children will learn about coastal features, the oceans of the world, marine animals. We will create some nutritious and healthy vegetable dippers in DT. In Science, we will look at how plants and trees grow and what they need to survive. We will most certainly be making the most of our wonderful outdoor area!
