Welcome to Year 3!
Welcome to Year 3, the first year of Key Stage 2! The children will venture up the tower block to begin their new and exciting adventure in Key Stage 2. We endeavour to ensure that the transition is smooth, engaging and enjoyable.
3S is taught by Mrs Mitchell (M,T,W,Th) and Mrs Spivey (F) and 3P is taught by Miss Haider. In addition, it is wonderful to be supported by Mrs McNicholas, and Mrs Hodkinson, along with Miss Bates and Miss Coates. Children continue to be encouraged to reach their full potential and also expected to become more independent and self-motivated, taking responsibility for their own attitude to learning, this will create a strong foundation for the rest of KS2.
The Year 3 curriculum is rich, stimulating and varied, we are certain Year 3 will be a year in which children can flourish. During our first half term we focus on ‘Extreme Earth’. We learn about the layers of the earth, how mountains are formed and later natural disasters such as volcanoes and earthquakes. Children will develop their understanding of light and dark and then in Autumn 2 explore different rocks and soils. This is one of our favourite topics as we spend lots of time outdoors.
In the Spring term, we explore the question ‘Were the Romans really rotten?’  The children learn about what made the Roman army so successful which includes a day in role training to be a Roman Legionary!
The final term focuses on what happened to Britain once the Romans left, including the invasions of the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. We look back at how Britain continued to change and the impact invaders have had on the way we live today.
During each topic, students will be able to participate in some fantastic learning opportunities using and applying their new knowledge. More information will be provided in the newsletters for each half term, as well as homework, spelling, learn by heart and PE information.
We are positive that Year 3 will be a great year for all the children. We are so excited for the year ahead and look forward to working with you again to make it the richest learning experience possible. As always, we are happy to meet and support you in any way we can, please contact us via our school email or telephone the school office.
